California veteransCalVet didn’t fit? You may still have strong home loan options.
Income limits, a 25-year timing rule, or another CalVet requirement do not necessarily end the conversation. New Way Mortgage can compare federal VA-backed financing and other programs across more than 300 lenders.
A separate path forwardCalVet and VA are not the same program.
CalVet is a California state program with funding-specific rules. A traditional VA-backed loan is made by a private lender and backed in part by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. If one CalVet pathway does not fit, the federal VA benefit—or a conventional, FHA, jumbo, portfolio, or other available program—may still deserve review.

Why borrowers look beyond CalVet
- A CalVet funding source has a household-income or purchase-price limit.
- The application falls outside a funding source’s 25-year window.
- The property, occupancy, or loan amount needs a different structure.
- The borrower wants to compare payment, fees, and long-term cost.

Does a CalVet decline mean I cannot get a VA loan?
No. CalVet and federal VA-backed loans are separate programs. A lender must review your VA eligibility and finances independently.
Does the VA benefit expire after 25 years?
VA does not publish a general 25-year expiration for the federal home loan benefit. The commonly discussed timing rule belongs to one CalVet funding category.
Does CalVet always have an income limit?
No. CalVet says restrictions differ by funding source. Ask which source and current rules apply.
Can I use a VA loan with no down payment?
Many eligible borrowers can, but entitlement, loan amount, lender approval, and the property all matter.
What if I already used my VA benefit?
You may have remaining entitlement or qualify for restoration. An updated Certificate of Eligibility helps determine the position.
Do you only compare VA loans?
No. We can compare VA, conventional, FHA, jumbo, portfolio, and other available programs.
Will submitting this form affect my credit?
Submitting this inquiry alone does not authorize a credit pull. We will discuss next steps and any required authorization with you.
Is this a guarantee of approval?
No. Approval depends on complete documentation, underwriting, the property, and current program requirements.
